Phantom of the Opera jewelry challenge reveal

When the blog Crazy Creative Corner announced that

she was having a Phantom of the Opera themed blog hop,

where we had to create a jewelry piece inspired by the play/book/movie etc

I thought it would be the perfect excuse to read it!

I have never read the book nor watched the play/movie before.

I have always wanted to since everyone that I have had feedback from

said how great it was. To me, it was okay, probably not on my list of must read agains,

but I would like to watch the film to give it a better chance.

The fact that because I was working 90 hrs / week through August and had no choice

but to listen to it on Audiobook probably didnt help it much, so one day

when this hecticness I should say- when we hire some more staff - I will

watch the film :)

I made a pair of earrings for my jewelry piece.

In the Audiobook there were no songs like in the movie or play,

basically it was the bland man's voice trying to sing and when he

did it was only a sentence or two. 

So these earrings dont represent a particular song, they represent a part 

of my interpretation of the story and some of the vision

that I had while listening to it.

The red faceted glass beads are for the love between Christine

and Raul, and the dark hand blackened brass for the struggles they went through

and the shape reminds me of  fancy architecture way back then, It reminds

me of the Opera house ceiling around where the chandelier was and

also something that someone in the early 1900's would wear.

I dont really know that - that's just what  I envisioned!

I was pretty bummed that all the audiobook had for music was short, out of tune 

bits and pieces of the man narrator singing ,  I had never listened to an

audiobook before and I thought it would be perfect - I could sew and

work at the same time!! Now I know for next time!

~ My Bead Soup Blog Party 6 Reveal ~

Wow!

What a fun and wonderful learning experience for me!

My partner for this party is Debbie Price from

Green Shoot Jewellery Designs.

When I hurredly opened the package that came

in the mail, I was so excited and a little nervous, as I

havent branched away much from my "norm".

I usually always work with dark metals,

hand blackened brass etc, so when I saw the

light, shiny *bling* I was excited to work with something new!

This is the Soup Ingredients and lovely card that I received from Debbie:

I absolutely love that clasp,

how beautifully vintage, a large crystal jewel!

The heart attached to the key with the chain there was actually a

brooch pin set. I wish I had thought of taking a photo of the back

of each one before I removed the pins and smoothed them down

but that's okay. I also removed the chain.

In my finished piece I used the two focals (heart & key),

the gorgeous vintage silver clawed jewel clasp,

the large silver filigree ball with the row of sparkling jewels around it,

the chain of jewels,

two of the small silver bejeweled spacer beads

and 4 of the charcoal faceted glass beads.

I envisioned the finished necklace after only a few minutes

of looking through my own stash and immediately knew

that I wanted to use silk ribbon in a bright color,
so I searched for the perfect color - fuchsia it was!
I turned a bright silk shirt that was probably quite fashionable
in the early '90's in to some gorgeous silk ribbon that is much
more fashionable now!!

Some silver wire and a tassle dangling from the heart finished
it of perfectly.

I LOVE IT!!!

So I've decided to challenge myself

with a jewelry creation challenge over at

Craft Crazy Designs blog, I'm so super excited

about it!!

The challenge is to be inspired by

The Phantom of the Opera....

The main focus of the piece

cannot include the rose or the mask - That would be

far too easy! They can be in/on the piece,

just not the main focal as it's meant to

challenge us and make us really think!

Once I finish my piece, when I post it,

I need to give the title of the song or part in the

play that I was inspired by and why

I chose it.

I dont know anything about the Phantom

of the Opera nor have I ever seen the movie, read

or watched the play!

So guess what I'm going to be doing tonight??

Time to study up!

I got Alan to download both the play and

the movie for me, so I will be watching those

an becoming inspired!

I wonder if I will be able to get him to watch

them with me....
